  • We help you get ready for your My Aged Care assessment
  • Your costs in writing before you agree to anything

Start here

Support at Home, made simple

Aged care can sound complicated, so here is the short and friendly version before you call anyone.

  • What Support at Home is

The government funded aged care program that brings help to you, at home. It replaced home care packages, and it pays for practical support with the mornings, the housework and getting out.

  • What it is not

It is not a nursing home and it is not a move. Your home stays yours, and so do your keys, your routine and your decisions.

  • Who decides

My Aged Care and your assessment work out what you are approved for. You choose who delivers it, and you can change your mind later.

What we help with

The help that keeps you in your own home

You keep your home, your neighbours and your routine. We fit in around it, and you choose which parts of the week you would like a hand with.

  • Personal care

Showering, dressing, grooming, continence support and medication prompting, done the way you like it done.

  • Around the house

Cleaning, laundry, linen, meal preparation and the jobs that have started to get harder.

  • Getting out

Shopping, appointments, the bank, the club. Transport with someone who comes in with you if you want.

  • Company

Social support and a familiar face, so the week has something in it besides tasks.

  • Support for carers

Planned respite so the person who cares for you gets a proper break.

  • Keeping your independence

Practical help that keeps you doing what you can still do, rather than taking it over.

How to start

Four steps, and you are not doing them alone

Most people call us halfway through this and ask what the letter means. That is fine. Call us at any step and we will explain it in simple terms.

  1. Call My Aged Care

Phone 1800 200 422 or visit myagedcare.gov.au. This is the front door to all government funded aged care in Australia.

Call us first if you want a hand knowing what to ask.

  2. Have your assessment

An assessor talks with you about what you can manage and where you need a hand. Have a family member with you if that helps.

Write down your routine and the jobs you find hardest before the visit.

  3. Choose your provider

You receive a letter with what you have been approved for. Approval is not tied to any one provider, and the choice is yours.

You are allowed to interview us. Ask who comes and how often.

  4. We visit you at home

We agree what support looks like week to week, who comes, when, and what it costs, in writing, before anything starts.

Nothing begins until you have read it and said yes.

What it costs

No surprises, ever

Support at Home has contributions set by government rules. What you pay depends on your assessed situation and the type of support you receive.

  • You get your costs in writing before you sign a service agreement.
  • We explain what your funding covers and what it does not.
  • If your needs change, we talk about it before anything changes on your invoice.

We give you the current contribution rates in writing, for your situation, before you agree to anything.

Being straight with you

What we will not do

  • We do not decide your eligibility or your funding. My Aged Care and your assessment do that.
  • We will not start a service you have not agreed to in writing.
  • We do not provide nursing home or residential aged care.
  • Your visits are scheduled with you, at times that suit you, so you always know who is coming and when.

Coming, not yet open

A Vertical Village for older Australians

We are designing an apartment village for older Australians: your own front door, neighbours you know, and support delivered to your apartment. Nothing is open yet, and you can register your interest so we can contact you when there is something real to talk about.
