Medium term accommodation (MTA)

Medium term accommodation

Somewhere to live while your longer term home is being sorted out, for up to ninety days.

Who it suits

For the gap between one home and the next

MTA exists for people who know where they are going but cannot get there yet.

  • Leaving hospital or rehab

You are medically ready to leave but the home you are going to is not ready for you yet.

  • Waiting on a build or modifications

Your longer term home is confirmed and being finished, or home modifications are still underway.

  • A living situation that has ended

A family arrangement or a tenancy that cannot continue, while a proper home is being arranged.

  • A plan with a date on it

You know where you are heading and roughly when. MTA covers the gap in between.

What a stay includes

Settled, not temporary feeling

  • A settled place to live, with your own bedroom, for up to ninety days.
  • Support scheduled to your own plan, by a small team who read about you before you arrive.
  • Help to keep appointments, therapy and routines going while you are with us.
  • Practical help getting ready for your next home, including working with your support coordinator.
  • A clear end point, agreed with you and everyone involved, so the stay does not drift.

How it is funded

MTA in your plan, support alongside it

MTA funding pays for the accommodation while your longer term home is being arranged. Your day to day support is funded separately, usually from core supports.

We cannot decide or promise funding. Send us the plan and we will read it with you and be clear about what is covered before anything is agreed.

How quickly we respond

two business days for an acknowledgement, and a fit outcome as soon as we have talked it through. Tell us the discharge or move date when you make contact.

For referrers

What to send us

  • The confirmed longer term home and the expected date.
  • Why the person cannot remain where they are.
  • Plan type, how the plan is managed, and the funding categories in it.
  • Support needs, including any behaviour support or clinical needs.
  • Any risk information we need to plan safely.
  • The discharge or move date driving the timeline.

If a document is easier than a form, send it to info@kintera.com.au and we will read it.

Honest limits

What we will not do

  • MTA is not a long term home. Ninety days is the outside limit and we work to an agreed end point.
  • We do not take a stay we cannot support safely. If the answer is no, you get a clear reason quickly.
  • We do not decide funding. The NDIA decides whether MTA is funded in a plan.
  • We do not claim 24/7, on call or building wide cover. Support is scheduled to your plan.
