The open plan living and dining area of an apartment at our Bondi Junction village, where short stays happen.

Short Term Respite (STR)

Short Term Respite

A short stay, planned or at short notice, in a real home with people who will get to know you.

Who it suits

Short Term Respite in plain words

STR is a short stay in one of our villages with support included. Some people plan it months ahead, others need it this week.

  • A planned break

A stay booked ahead so the person who cares for you gets a proper break, and you get a change of scene.

  • Something at short notice

A carer in hospital, a family emergency, a home that is suddenly not workable. Call us and tell us it is urgent.

  • Trying a village out

A few nights in a village before any longer decision, so you can see how it feels rather than guessing.

  • A break from the usual

New people, different routine, a bit of independence away from home, with support that is there when you need it.

What a stay includes

A real home, for a few days

  • Your own bedroom in one of our homes, with the usual comforts of home.
  • Support scheduled around your stay, by workers who read about you before you arrive.
  • Meals you have a say in, and help to cook them if you want to.
  • Activities and getting out, at the level you want. Nobody is made to join in.
  • Medication and personal care support where your plan includes it.
  • A handover back to your usual supports, so nothing gets dropped.

How it is funded

Through core supports in your plan

STR is usually funded from core supports, and most plans fund up to 28 days a year. It normally covers your support, your accommodation, your meals and activities for the stay.

We cannot decide or promise funding. Send us the plan and we will read it with you before anything is booked.

How quickly we respond

two business days for an acknowledgement, and a fit outcome as soon as we have talked it through. For an urgent stay, call us and say so.

Honest limits

What we will not do

  • We do not take a stay we cannot support safely. If the answer is no, you get a clear reason quickly.
  • We do not claim 24/7, on call or building wide cover. Support is scheduled to the stay.
  • We do not provide hospital or clinical care in place of a health service.
  • Availability changes. We will tell you what is open rather than keeping you waiting on a maybe.

Need longer than a few days?

Medium term accommodation covers the in between

If your longer term home is being sorted out, medium term accommodation gives you somewhere settled to live for up to ninety days.
